As a small town community we have tried to keep our water rates low, but rising costs, increased state requirements in testing and upgrades and the increase in vacated homes reducing our revenue we have come to the difficult but inevitable decision that we must raise our water rates or risk being forced to sell our water service to an independent utility service! In an effort to make this as economically painless as possible we will be raising the monthly rate $5 each year for the next three years. This will not go into effect until Dec. 1, 2016.
We recently completed an engineering study of our town-wide storm drain system and we have a lot of upgrades and improvements to do as most of us already knew. To help offset the decline in property tax revenue, again due to the increase in vacated homes we have been burdened with the task of looking for way to fund these improvements. Also effective December 1st we will be implementing a storm drain fund of $2 per month.
We invite everyone to attend the upcoming board meetings so we can answer any and all questions and explain in detail how we came to this decision. STORM WATER STUDY (PDF), WATER DIST. STUDY (PDF)
